IGA President’s Newsletter

The regular monthly
meeting of the IGA was held at the Country Club on May 8, 2008
CONSTRUCTION UPDATE
Finally, there is
light at the end of the tunnel!
Joe Murphy, CEO of Masonic Villages, attended a
meeting of Irem officials on Wednesday, May 8th to inform the
gathering of the status of the clubhouse project. Only one (1) approval of the
construction plan remains to be received, that of the Luzerne County
Conservation District. The Conservation
District is currently reviewing the plan and has notified MV that the review
will be completed by the end of May. If
approval is given, construction will begin soon after.
Construction of the retention pond and paving of the
pro shop parking lot are also awaiting final approval of the Conservation
District.
PRO’S REPORT
Paul reported the
Spring Classis was a huge success.
Congratulations to all the flight winners, and to Classic champions, the
Hoover/Gaylord team.
The pro shop staff
did and excellent job preparing for the tournament and keeping play moving at
brisk pace.
The new pro shop is
now open for business.
COURSE SUPERINTENDENT’S
REPORT
Chris reported that
several project have begun including clearing and cleaning of drainage ditches
on several holes, tree removal, and completion of the bunker project on
#7. The bunkers will be open for play
sometime next week.
Spring aerification
has been completer and the greens are returning to their normal condition. Several areas of requiring attention were
discussed, including the matting on the steps of hole #9, filling of holes at
various spots on the course, and the condition of the wall on #2.
GREENS COMMIMTTEE
REPORT
Concerns about out of
bounds markings, and how they are determined, will be referred to the committee
for discussion.
RANGE COMMITTEE
REPORT
The range is open and
operating at full capacity. Hours of operation
will be adjusted as the season progresses.
Signs will be posted
alerting members that CARTS ARE NOT ALLOWED on the tee area of the
range. Carts must be parked along the
road.
Members are reminded
to please keep the range areas clean and to return ball buckets to the shed
area after use.
RULES
CLARIFICATION: IGA members are allowed
to bring family members to the range but must BUY TOKENS for balls that
will be used by these individuals.
RULES COMMITTEE
REPORT
The rules committee
will begin the process of developing new rules regarding the leave policy. All IGA members are encouraged to offer input
concerning this subject.
Rule chances will be
proposed at the annual fall meeting.
The rules regarding
twosomes on weekends and holidays were amended to allow twosomes access to the
course after 12:00 as determined by the Pro.
NEW BUSINESS
The committee agreed
to co-sponsor with the Uniformed Units a Pavilion Restoration Tournament to
tentatively be held September 13. All
proceeds from the tournament will benefit the restoration project. Format will be determined by the tournament
committee and representatives of the Uniformed Units.
OLD BUSINESS
Paving of cart paths
was discussed. Evaluation of needs will
be completed and reviewed before any action is taken. Particular attention will be paid to the path
around # 9 green. Funds available for
paving are approximately $40,000.
Discussion of the use
of the course by Misericordia
University was discussed.
A revised letter to Dallas and Wyoming
Valley West will be sent
to each district concerning compensation desired for use of the golf course.
